Do they throw around green items like the sword, axes, and shields that people are still paying hundreds of plat for? Do they throw around the willcrusher? If so, throw one my way. I'll pay well for it. The reason the security deposit has to be in ecto is that the value is well established and easily divisible. It is what economists might call a "fungible good." Greens are not: someone may offer up his garbage greens that fall in the footprint as collateral and then as soon as that razorstone drops under his name, he grabs it and logs off, instead of giving it to the warrior. The security collateral has to exceed the value of the best item that could potentially drop to protect against what transactional attorneys might call "the moral hazard." If you left a deposit of 5 green items each valued by the market and the party members at 24K, then it might work and be divisible among the party in the event you left prematurely without explanation and without returning to comply with the loot share rule. But what are the odds everyone in the party would agree on the value of your five green items?

Meh. I do this on an Honor System basis. And I'm pretty careful not to party with griefers. The only assurance I carry is to add everyone to my friends list before we leave town. Then when someone leaves after gaining a manditory trade item (MTI) they move over to the ignore list. Fool me once and all that.

I have only had to ignore one person in the year that I've been playing this.

Also in PUGs without saying anything like this, I've given good items that I can't use to the appropriate class member of my team. I have 'asked' that they give it back if they don't intend to use it. Honestly, I can't say if they did use it or not, but I don't regret my choice. What do I loose? A couple plat?

Of course, I'm too poor to afford my 15k armor set now, so you probably don't want to follow my example.

LBS is a respectable player with a booming running business. While I am not a fan of the system, you would be able to trust LBS with the ecto.

Thanks Warskull. I never mind people being cautious, and recommend that they always do so, but it is pretty puzzling when they call something a scam when it is so carefully articulated and explicitly urges them to leave the deposit with someone of "impeccable integrity who the whole party can trust." I think this system would be the perfect way to farm for greens if you are hoping to find specific items that you intend to use with a specific profession. I think it is a system that is fair to everyone and dramatically increases the probability that you will get items you can use. Nevertheless, the default game system of randomized drops is perfectly fair and adequate (and considerably simpler) if you are looking for stuff to sell, not necessarily use.

So it is a different system for a different purpose with a reasonable way to ensure that even strangers who join will play by the rules. I have to let you guys know, though, that I no longer need to do this run, as the green item I would be farming for is the mesmer staff "Willcrusher" which I actually bought in game last night. So there isn't really any need for me to head into sorrows furnace for it. Thanks, though, for everyone who was interested in this expedition. I will make one this weekend, for anyone who wants to come, but we do not need to do the LBS style loot share, as I am perfectly content with randomized drops. That saves us from having to do a deposit and all that, too.

Hey Maxie monster, before you or anyone else buys ecto, please read my most recent post in the thread. I got the mesmer staff I needed in game last night, and so I probably won't be doing this expedition after all. That doesn't mean others cannot use the system and still go (be sure you can trust whoever you leave the security deposit with), but I will probably pass on the run myself. Thanks for all the interest, though! And if any of you guys see me on this weekend, I'd still enjoy going with you, we just don't necessarily have to do the LBS style loot share. We could do a standard default random loot and not mess with the security.

I would be up for any standard kill everything that moves run. Feel free to look me up and if I am not busy I can go for it. The overhead for an LBS loot runis too much of a pain in the rear. Plus I like to collect the greens and give them to guildies as prizes.

I run:
E/Mo
Me/W
N/R

I wouldn't mind joining with my necro/mesmer, but I'm WAY short of 15 ecto's at the moment (haven't been farming in ages). I don't have any issues with loot distribution (played EQ for 3+ years and had enough of loot wars).

LBS isn't a scammer. She's good at what she does, and has a business in GW. She knows that if word got out she scammed someone, she'd ruin her reputation, and the reputation of her company.

Well I know I'm late for the post but I'll go on a run with you, either as a Mesmer/Monk, Ele/me (echo nuker) or axe w/r.. IGN- The Primeval King. I have you on my friends list, so if you are on when I am I will probably talk to you.

Also, I know this probably wouldn't work because I don't think other people would trust you with their beloved green items this much, but maybe at the end of the run everyone could give the items to you. Then you sell them and divide up the gold equally to the party members, and if they wanted an item instead of the gold, you could give the item to them instead.

Interesting system, except I will never use it. Why do people get penalized for having good stuff? Just let the gw loot system decide. Although it is broken.

I consider it broken because it doesn't take into account what people have previously recieved. It should take into account how many rares one person has recieved while in that party.
